Northwestern Football Coach Randy Walker

Randy Walker, age 52, died Thursday, June 29th of an apparent heart attack. My condolences to the family, and those close to him. He will be missed by sports fans everywhere.

While Northwestern is not particularly known for it’s football prowess, Walker’s teams produced some of the most memorable games ever played in the big ten. His basketball on grass teams produced the memorable 2000 54-51 victory over Michigan — an ESPN instant classic, the 2000 41-35 victory over Minnesota on the last play of the game, and the dreaded 2005 28-27 come from behind victory over my alma mater, Iowa.

He was a quality coach who did things the right way.
