Jones rumored to have positive ‘A’ sample

Eurosport and The Washington Post are reporting that Marion Jones tested positive for EPO at the U.S. National Championships in June. So far, the USADA, USOC, and the IAAF have made no report or comment on the situation. The result has not been made public pending the verification of the B sample. From the Post article:

Jones, 30, has been dogged with doping allegations since the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (Balco) drug scandal broke in 2003, but she has vehemently maintained her innocence and boasted that she had never failed a drug test.

The Washington Post: M. Jones Failed Drug Test in June

Jones is one of only three women to have run 100m in under 11 seconds in 2006; the others are Sherone Simpson and Veronica Campbell both from Jamaca. At one point, Jones represented the best potential candidate for approaching the 100m world record of 10.49 set by Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988. Her personal record at the distance is a 10.65 result in 1998. Simpson, who has run the best time this year, has a top result of 10.82.
