Today, the Daily Iowan had a good article titled Iowa’s epic voyager
which is a history of James Van Allen. Van Allen, who passed on Aug 9th, was a well known and popular professor emeritus at the University of Iowa and a pioneer in experimental physics.
I didn’t ever have the pleasure of meeting Van Allen, though I did take classes in the building that bears his name. He is definitely someone who left his mark on the world. I wish his wife and family well.
