Operacion Puerto and Doping in Cycling

More doping news. I’m sure that when “Operacion Puerto” caused numerous riders to be removed from last years Tour that everyone felt that it was the correct course of action given the situation. However, since the team directors voluntary removed those riders, many of them have been cleared. I’m going to attempt to not bang on my WADA drum anymore, but here are some links to the Eurosport and ESPN articles.

  • Botero Cleared

    The Colombian Cycling Federation has cleared Santiago Botero of contravening doping regulations after the Phonak rider was named in the massive Operacion Puerto doping probe in Spain, just a few weeks before the start of the Tour de France.

  • Enzyme linked to samples

    Cyclists may have used an enzyme commonly found in washing powder to tamper with tainted doping samples, Swiss anti-doping investigators say.

  • Landis just hopes life gets back to normal

    After two trying months marked by doping allegations, an assault on his reputation and his father-in-law’s suicide, Floyd Landis doesn’t wish for a stirring comeback so much as the simpler things in life.

    At this point, he’ll take a good night’s sleep, free of pain.

  • Ferguson wants longer bans

    The Bahamas’ former 200 metres world champion Debbie Ferguson is leading the calls for a return to four-year bans for athletes who participate in proven aggravated doping cases.
