The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Dick Pound will not head WADA next year, he will be replaced by current French Sports Minister Jean-Francois Lamour.
The Council of Europe nominated French sports minister Jean-Francois Lamour for president of the World Anti-Doping Agency. The 46-nation body endorsed Lamour, an Olympic fencing champion in 1984 and ‘88, to succeed Dick Pound as WADA’s president next year. He is one of Europe’s most outspoken officials on doping.

There is also a blurb on velonews.com. So, his contract is going to expire. I suppose the unspoken portion is that it is also not going to be renewed. Does that mean he is effectively being fired? Additionally, I’m not sure what this means for WADA, the IOC, cycling, or just the general level of smugness displayed by Pound before the reinstatement of basically everyone associated with the Operation Puerto.
Since Pound isn’t one to let failure stop him, he’s recently been giving most professional sports leagues in North America the business. NBA commissioner David Stern, in an AP story stated, (WADA) is actually getting harder to take seriously.
