Human Race 8K Report

Preamble

It’s been a while since I ran a race. Something like seven weeks, so it was time to start a hopeful summer of working primarily on speed. Swim speed, run speed, bike speed, everything. A couple of things should help in that regard. First, I started running at the RR again; though I still think they suck rocks and intend to spend no money there. However, being back in that environment at least puts a bunch of events in front of me on a regular basis which tends to remind me that I have to actually participate. Second, there are a bunch of St. Patrick’s Day events in the Twin Cities every year. Third, there was a RR event which I had sworn off but it got me looking for an alternative. The choice was easy; it was The Human Race.

Some History

Online Race Results keeps results around for a while and can be real handy for trying to establish what your PR is for a given distance. Here are my Human Race results since I started running again back in 2002.

  • 03/23/03 Human Race - 2003
    Place (Overall)
    474/1609
    Chip Time
    36:28
  • 03/18/07 St Patrick’s Day Human Race
    Place (Overall)
    248/947
    Chip Time
    33:52

So, there’s a new 8K PR by a couple minutes. The race itself was a bit colder and more breezy then I might have liked. Toward the end of the race, I could tell that I haven’t really been training much lately as I started to struggle a bit. Yasso 800’s here I come.. Of mild interest, my original goal of running a sub twenty minute 5K is still unfulfilled. I’ve knocked on that door with a 20:05, but never actually gotten under twenty flat. I think that should happen sometime this summer. It will be nice to get that milestone taken care of. Then comes the REALLY hard goal of getting a sub 40 minute 10K. That may take some doing. ;)
