The great leap forward…

Recreational Reading has finally moved from Lunarpages to the new(er) virtual dedicated hosting environment; so if this original article is unavailable, that’s the cause. The new environment should be gradually replacing the old as name service entries expire. Included in the move is a giant step forward to Wordpress 2.3 Beta 3. The Wordpress upgrade should close the security hole in the pingback mechanism which allowed comment spam. It was well abused by the comment spammers; those bastards.

Additionally, there’s a new theme with a different layout. I’m not sure that I really like this one as much as the old one, but it’s at least different. I’ve also changed the location of the “associated links” block. Previously, they were at the beginning of the article, then floated to the right to get them out of the way. Floating them to the right worked OK for the main presentation display with the css rule; but they were in the wrong place in the articles when read through the feed. Now they follow the article; it seems to make more sense that way.

As a new feature of Wordpress 2.3, they now have meta tags in addition to categories. I really like that and will be going back through old articles to add tags. Eventually, the “possibly related” stuff might be replaced with something a bit more exact. ;)

If you find something horribly wrong, annoying, or broken beyond belief please let me know and I’ll take a look at it. I believe that subdomains of the old host are still missing, so things linking to images.suthsc.net are going to be broken for a while. I would expect the site to gradually improve back to normal over the next couple weeks.
