Swimming and a 10 Count

I’ve been swimming more then usual over the last eight weeks in order to prepare for the 1500m swim leg in the Lifetime Olympic distance triathlon in July. The problem — as always — seems to boil down to some kind of swim endurance and/or comfort level that I need to develop. I wanted to [...]

It may have been a moment of weakness..

Tuesday, for some inexplicable reason, I signed up for next years Lifetime Triathlon — the olympic distance. The lengths are 1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run. 1500 meters of swimming in Lake Nokomis should provide enough motivation to make anyone want to get out of the water just as soon as possible.
I suppose [...]

2007 Pigman Triathlon Results

Quick Results

Overall Place
Division Place
Chip Time

178/588
31/64
1:24:00

I’m happy with the result. I feel like I might have been able to go a little faster had I known a little more about the course. On the bike leg, there’s a little rise [...]

More numbers

Recently, I was timed in the pool for 100m at ~1:48. I’m not sure how sustainable that is over distance, but it’s an interesting number. My swimming speed goal has been to get to around 2:00/100m and it appears that may be an attainable number which makes me very happy. I’m also hoping that, recent [...]

Something about me?

The following is from an email from the organizers of the Pigman Triathlon that I received on Monday.
A fun tradition that we have for the Pigman events is for our participants to share a tidbit or two about their backgrounds and/or racing experiences that we can share with the spectators during the race.
So, before May [...]

The Channel Challenge and you

Brit’s Pub is having a fund raising auction of their lawn bowling chairs in support of the YWCA’s Channel Challenge. It’s a good opportunity, to bring swimming opportunities to underserved children and youth such as swim instruction, swim team participation and job training in lifeguarding and coaching.
If you’ve taken swimming lessons from Dave and enjoyed [...]

I’m tri-ing though it may not seem like it

On monday I received my Pigman confirmation email, and sat there reading the whole thing in a state of complete shock. Am I ready for this damn thing? Let’s check the recent.. um.. improvements or lack thereof:

Get a wetsuit. check
Get the bike position worked out. check
Get some open water swim practice. heeeheheheheheheh
Ride the bike more, [...]

It’s Here…

FINALLY!

I’m so excited that I can barely freaking control myself! I managed to wait a whole minute before opening the box and peeking at it, but that’s all I could manage.
Local lakes are still very cold and I’ll probably hate swimming in them for a while, but I can’t wait to actually give this a [...]

Miami Marathon Training Update

Today was the end of the first third of my current Marathon training program. With six weeks of the program complete, things are proceeding nicely. However, I do not feel like [...]

Rookie’s Triathlon, part two

This is part two of the results from the Elysian Rookie’s Triathlon. The swim leg is covered by part one.
Transition one
It took longer moving at T1 then I would have liked. I had problems pulling the jersey [...]
